Instagram Recap

Continuing my Autumn grid with images from my Smoky Mountains trip.
Golden Creek
-
This shot was actually a vertical panorama with 3 shots stacked. I loved the vibrant golden leaves above as well as the leaves setting down on the rocks. I noted in my caption that I loved the contrast between the smooth textures of the water and the gritty textures of the rocks. Using the little waterfall stream on the right side of the frame and the black rock in the center, I set my shot. The main techniques I used were some dodge and burn for selective contrast and frequency separation to bring out the textures in the stones.
Tranquil Flow
-
Long exposure waterfalls are some of my favorites, especially if that waterfall has many tiers and layers. Multiple streams mean multiple strands of silky watery flow in the image. For this composition, I wanted to show off all the tiers of the waterfall so I shot this from the side to get a perspective showing off all the layers. Half a second was enough to get that silky flow of water.
Smoky Forests
-
Come to the Smokies on a foggy day and you'll see why the Smoky Mountains are aptly named the Smokies. The fog was so thick it honestly looked like plumes of smoke. While I was in the mountains, I looked down into the forests and saw a patch of trees protruding out from the rest. You'll see those trees in the center of the frame, I chose those trees as my subject and took this image. You'll be able to see the thick plumes of fog drifting through as well as the vibrant orange colors of the trees that stands out because of the color contrast.

Photographer of the Week

This past week's Photographer of the week was Will, also known on Instagram as @willg_photography

Check out Will’s gallery and you’ll stare at his many dreamy desert landscapes.

With many of his shots being in the Southwest US, much of his grid is filled with layers of smooth dunes through all hours of the day.

Golden hour, night-scapes, a gallery of straight magic, you won’t be disappointed with his, soft, dreamy, and clean compositions.
